Cost reduction of 50% with Infraspace

Energy project — access road optimization

Presented at Autodesk University 2025 • CUSTOMER CASE STUDY

Outcomes

  • 50% reduction in estimated access-road construction cost (7.9 to 3.5 MNOK)
  • One day of Infraspace analysis vs weeks of manual iteration
  • Terrain-aware optimization for energy-project access roads

At Autodesk University 2025, Norconsult shared how Infraspace is changing early-phase infrastructure design. In an Industry Talk, Kristoffer Bugge, Digital Transformation Leader at Norconsult, walked through a real energy project where the team needed to plan access roads across demanding terrain.

Rather than spending weeks on manual iterations, the project team used Infraspace to explore and compare access road in a single day of analysis. Connecting elevation data and transport constraints—such as slope limits—while minimizing earthworks and construction cost.

Result

50% reduction in estimated construction cost

From 7.9 MNOK to 3.5 MNOK in one day of analysis.

The example illustrates how terrain-aware road design for energy infrastructure can protect project economics when every meter of road and cubic meter of excavation matters. By automating alignment exploration and cost feedback, Infraspace gave Norconsult a faster, more transparent basis for decisions before detailed design.
